Welcome to the North Shore Poets’ Forum

The North Shore Poets’ Forum was created in the mid 1970s as an informal group of poets who were interested in learning more about the art and craft of poetry. It is still dedicated to this purpose.

The group provides workshops at each of its meetings. All forum members are invited to prepare workshops, which could focus on anything from a particular form of poetry, a poet, a theme, or any other facet of poetry that strikes the presenter’s fancy.

Members also offer gentle critiques of one another’s poetry, and enjoy camaraderie during the meetings.

The North Shore Poets’ Forum sponsors a nationwide contest once a year, named for a longtime member Naomi Cherkofsky. Winners are asked to read at the annual reading in honor of National Poetry month, during which attendees are also invited to read if they wish.

Meetings are usually held at the Beverly Public Library on the third Saturday of September, October, November, March, April and May, depending on how holidays fall.

In addition, the forum shares a Holiday meeting with the Massachusetts State Poetry Society, of which it is now a chapter, usually the first week of December.

See our Meetings and Events calendar for more information. See also the Massachusetts State Poetry Society for more information about that organization.

We hope to offer poetry from among our members. See the Introducing…tag at the top of the home page.

Please share your comments, questions, and enthusiasm.

  1. This is a nice site with complete information about this group. I am a part of this group and find our meetings very useful and beneficial to my poetry wriiting. Not only that,, I’m “rubbing elbows” with some very fine poets from the North Shore, which makes me feel very special. Thank you for making this site.

  2. I hope to attend one of your meetings in the near future. I’m so glad they’re on weekends because I teach weekday evenings (and some but not all Saturdays) and therefore can rarely attend poetry workshops or events that meet evenings.

QUESTION – I’m confused by a post from your group I found online that referred to Mass. state poetry meeting this Saturday October 6. The Mass State poetry web site indicates a meeting October 13, not October 6. Can anyone clarify?

    1. When in doubt, check out the Mass. State Poetry Society site. Just google it, and when there, just click on calendar.

    1. Yes! we will meet on Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. We usually meet in what is called the Sohier Room, but the library is having a book sale. Therefore, we are meeting upstairs in the Beverly
Room. We’d love you to join is. In December we join with the Mass State a poetry Society to have a Holiday Party, on the first Saturday, Dec. 6th, 11 a.m. We do have the Sohier Room.
